Sri Pada) is the most popular and accessible trekking route in Ella. Rising 1,141 meters above

sea level, this hike is designed as a beginner-friendly trail that provides an exceptionally high

reward for a relatively mild physical effort, making it suitable for families and casual walkers

alike.

The journey begins at the edge of the town center, passing through the beautiful, neatly

manicured rows of the 98 Acres tea estate. The initial path is broad, gravel-paved, and gently

sloped, winding through rows of vibrant green tea bushes where travelers can watch tea

pluckers at work. The air is filled with the clean, herbaceous scent of crushed tea leaves. As the

trail nears the base of the peak, it transitions into a well-kept concrete staircase that climbs

steeply up the final ridge line, flanked by wild mountain grasses and hardy pine trees.

Reaching the narrow crest reveals a breathtaking, 360-degree panorama. The primary summit

features a small viewing platform, often decorated with colorful Buddhist prayer flags that

flutter in the strong mountain breeze. To one side, the sheer drop of the Ella Gap reveals the

vast southern plains stretching toward the horizon, while to the other, the dramatic, imposing

face of Ella Rock rises directly opposite. For the more adventurous, a narrow dirt trail continues

along the razor-sharp ridge line to two further peaks, offering an exhilarating walk with sheer

drops on either side and unmatched views of the sunrise or sunset painting the mountain peaks

in warm golden hues.
